The Northern Ireland Anti-Bullying Forum (NIABF) has launched two new guides to support schools when dealing with incidents of disablist bullying and bullying involving Looked After Children (LAC).
The Forum’s Chair, Gillian Cuthbert, explains why the new resources are important:
“Northern Ireland Anti-Bullying Forum (NIABF) is the lead on anti-bullying policy and practice in Northern Ireland. We have developed these two new guides in close collaboration with key stakeholders from across the sector. Our aim is to offer guidance on the considerations which schools should bear in mind when addressing incidents of disablist bullying and bullying involving Looked After Children (LAC)
“The new guides are designed to accompany NIABF’s ‘Effective responses to Bullying Behaviour’ resource, which is already being used in schools across Northern Ireland. We would encourage all schools to avail of these important new resources.”*
Discussing NIABF’s future plans, Lee Kane, Regional Anti-Bullying Coordinator at NIABF adds: “NIABF is taking forward work to advance anti-bullying policy and practice and to promote an effective responses to bullying of vulnerable young people in Northern Ireland. We are actively working to develop material that supports all young people who are exposed to bullying. Our next policy document will focus on LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) bullying and this will be published in the 2018/19 academic year.”
