In addition to our Art and Movie/Performance competition that we ran in the run-up to Anti-Bullying Week, we are pleased to announce a third category – Newspaper Report.

This category is kindly supported by the E-Safety Forum of the Safeguarding Board for Northern Ireland (SBNI).

Entry to this competition is now open and all entries must be received by Friday 14 December 2018. Winners will be announced in early 2019.

As the theme for ABW18 was “RESPECT”, for this competition we are inviting young people to submit a short newspaper report on the theme

“RESPECT in the Cyber World”

The report should use learning from the Anti-Bullying Week campaign to explore what respect means in the digital world. It should address how we show respect to others online and how we can address disrespectful, potentially bullying, situations we may encounter while using technology.

Reports must be no more than 500 words long. Entrants can embed up to three photographs or illustrations to support the content of the report.

How to Enter

All entries must be submitted on the Newspaper Report Competition Template. Follow this step-by-step guide to submitting your entries.

  1. Download the Newspaper Report Competition Template by clicking - ABW18 - NEWSPAPER REPORT TEMPLATE
  2. Complete the entry form (p1).
  3. Write the report (from p2)
  4. Save the file as a PDF. The file name should be the child’s name followed by the name of their school/group and the town, eg “Lee Kane, NIABF High School, Belfast”.
  5. Email the completed entry to info@niabf.org.uk by 5pm on Friday 7 December. Please mark the subject line “ABW18 Newspaper Report Competition Entry”.

What will happen to your entry?

Entries which reflect the theme of respect and how this contributes to building an anti-bullying culture online will be shortlisted for judging. Shortlisted entries will be judged by a panel, including members of NIABF.

Prizes will be awarded to outstanding entries. Children and young people with a special educational need can choose to have their entries considered for an additional ‘merit prize’.

Entries may be used for future anti-bullying campaigns.

What are the age categories?

There are four age categories for the competition, based on the school year group of the child/young person during ABW18:

  • Up to Year 4
  • Year 5 – 7
  • Year 8 – 10
  • Year 11 and over

While the age categories are based on school year groups, entries can be submitted through any organisation working with children and young people that has registered to take part in ABW18.

Children and young people with a special educational need can choose to have their entry considered for an additional Special Merit Prize.

Who can enter?

Entry is open to children and young people who attend a school or college in Northern Ireland. All entries must be submitted through a school, college, youth group or other organisation which has registered to take part in Anti-Bullying Week 2018. For information on registering, visit the NIABF website.

Closing Date

All entries must be submitted by 5pm on Friday 14 December 2018.
